Transfer to Quito’s airport, fly to Galapagos, and board the Santa Cruz II (with a 5-Day/4-Night Western itinerary).

Baltra Island

Arrive at Baltra Island by plane, transfer to the dock, and board the Santa Cruz II. Following an onboard introductory briefing, we partake in an emergency boat drill. Afterward, receive your cabin assignment and enjoy lunch.

Dragon Hill (Santa Cruz Island)

The fascinating landscapes of Cerro Dragón (Dragon Hill) on Santa Cruz’ north shore feature a brackish-water lagoon frequented by shorebirds, ducks and American flamingos. Further inland, iguanas abound as the trail offers beautiful views of the bay and the western islands of the archipelago.

Day 4: Punta Vicente Roca/ Punta Espinoza

Ecuador & Colombia tour: Isabella island

Punta Vicente Roca (Isabela Island)

After breakfast, explore the coast by dinghy while your naturalist guides explain the dramatic geology of the area. This site is a nesting place for flightless cormorants, Galapagos penguins, fur seals, and boobies. Weather permitting, snorkeling alongside the cliffs offers a chance to see rich marine life and, perhaps, green sea turtles and oceanic sun fish (Mola mola).

Punta Espinoza (Fernandina Island)

In the afternoon, explore the archipelago’s youngest island, Fernandina. The complete absence of introduced animals is one of its biggest draws along with marine iguanas, sea lions, Sally lightfoot crabs, hawks, penguins and flightless cormorants.

Day 5: Santa Cruz Island

Ecuador & Colombia tour: Puerto Ayora

Puerto Ayora & the Charles Darwin Research Station

We disembark at Puerto Ayora for a morning tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station–a giant tortoise Breeding Center and prickly-pear cactus forest, home to many land birds. The site hosts many scientific research and conservation efforts, along with National Park administrative offices. Post-visit, we will board a private transport to enjoy lunch in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, which feature an entirely different ecosystem.

Several options are discussed with your Expedition Leader in advance of the afternoon’s activities. Afterward, guests will return to Puerto Ayora and hop aboard the Santa Cruz II.

Day 6: Floreana Island/ Champion Islet

Ecuador & Colombia tour: Flamingos at Cormorant point

Baroness Tower + Post Office Bay

After breakfast, take a dinghy ride through the north shore of Floreana. Experience Baroness Cove and visit Post Office Bay where you can leave a postcard in the historic barrel or take one left by someone else to hand-deliver to the addressee!

Champion Islet + Cormorant Point

After lunch, explore the wonders of Champion Islet by glass-bottom boat or by snorkeling. This extinct shield volcano is a fascinating underwater spot. Next, head to Cormorant Point for a wet landing on an olivine-crystal beach and a leisurely walk to a lagoon where American flamingos, pintail ducks, common stilts, herons, sandpipers, and other birds tend to gather.

Day 7: Galapagos/ Arrive to Bogota/ Transfer to Hotel

Ecuador & Colombia tour: Bogota

Baltra Island Airport Transfer + Guayaquil

Disembark at Baltra Island and fly to Guayaquil’s Jose Joaquin de Olmedo Airport. Following a brief layover, catch your flight to Bogota.

Bogota, Colombia

Welcome to the capital city of Colombia–Bogota! Our guide will meet you at El Dorado International Airport and you’ll take a transfer to the Sofitel Hotel. After assisting you with check-in, the guide will give you a detailed itinerary of all the services included in your trip.

Bogota’s Sofitel Hotel is located in the prestigious neighborhood of La Cabrera, an excellent place for guests given its central location. The surrounding areas are home to museums, monuments, restaurants, and boutiques.

Day 8: Tour of Zipaquira and Bogota

Salt Cathedral in Zipaquira, Colombia

Zipaquira’s Underground Salt Cathedral + City Tour
Today begins with a panoramic city view on the way to Zipaquira. Head underground to experience the extraordinary Salt Cathedral, carved inside an active salt mine formed 250 million years ago.

Afterward, visit the colonial quarter of La Candelaria–a favorite of photographers. We explore the Museo del Oro (Gold), and the Botero Museum, celebrating Colombia’s most famous artist.

Lunch at a local restaurant with a set menu. Overnight at Sofitel Hotel in Bogota.

[NOTE: Appropriate dress is required for visits to sites such as churches. Please avoid wearing shorts, skirts, etc. Museo del Oro closes on Mondays and Botero Museum on Thursdays.]

Day 9: Coffee Triangle/ Transfer to Hotel

Ecuador & Colombia tour: Coffee triangle in Colombia

Airport Transfer + Coffee Triangle
Our guide will meet you in the hotel lobby and you’ll take a transfer to the El Dorado Airport or Puente Aereo (depending on your flight). We will assist you with check-in and connecting to your next destination.

The Zona Cafetera (Coffee Triangle) is Colombia’s principal coffee-growing area. Shaped like an inverted triangle, this region is comprised of three departments: Caldas, Quindio, and Risaralda. Its spectacular natural beauty makes it one of the most beautiful destinations; combining lush green valleys, exotic wildlife, and balmy climate. The perfect place to unwind and relax; sit back and enjoy the freshest coffee you’ll ever taste.

Overnight at Hotel Casa San Carlos Lodge.

Day 10: Salento & Cocora Valley Tour

Ecuador & Colombia tour: Cocora Valley, Colombia

Salento & Cocora Valley

This day, we visit Quindio’s beautiful Cocora Valley, home to the wax palm, (Colombia’s national tree and the world’s tallest variety of palm), measuring up to 190 ft.

A traditional canelazo (cocktail) welcome is followed by a visit to the misty forest where our guide explains the importance of conserving this beautiful ecosystem. Guests make a lasting contribution by planting wax palms at the park.

Next, visit Salento, founded in 1842, its well-preserved, colonial bahareque architecture is awash in harmonious color. The town’s Calle Real is lined end-to-end with restaurants, bars, and handicrafts shops.

A typical lunch, featuring smoked trout, is included at the Cocora Valley. Overnight at Hotel Casa San Carlos Lodge.
