The tour begins with a visit to “La Boquilla”, an old fishing village located twenty minutes north of Cartagena. This community was once a slave colony, and is home to many Afro-Colombian inhabitants.
Located on a narrow peninsula, nestled between the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and the “Ciénaga de la Virgen” – a large lake and mangrove swamp.
You’ll board a traditional canoe for a pleasant tour of the mangroves, where you’ll be able to observe the fauna and flora that inhabits this unique ecosystem.
In the latter half of the day, we’ll head over to a lively dance and drum workshop. You’ll enjoy live music and learn about the exciting rhythms and sound of Champeta, a style that is largely endemic to this region.
